Does the Source show Nativism? and Why do you say that? (Bullet list what evidence in the source convinces you of that)
3) Create a Voicethread using the Student Run Discussion format
Prompt: How do the primary sources documents you analyzed above show Nativism against the Irish in the 1840's? What's the author's POV? Use evidence to prove your point.(In other words, how does the author depict the Irish? Is this Nativist? What evidence in the sources proves that it shows Nativism.)
Each group of 4 will analyze 2 documents on ONE voicethread. Each voicethread should have a minimum of 8 comments in total (2 from each person in the group).
WHAT I need to include in my Voicethread:
...Use the 2 sources you analyzed above as the visuals for your Voicethread Discussion. ( If you use the Christian Examiner Source, choose 2 quotes as illustrations of your thesis.)
...Use the APPARTS Chart and the 2 Questions you answered below the APPARTS Chart as your evidence in your discussion.
...Show a deep understanding of Nativism while analyzing how the source shows Nativism.
WHERE: Embed your Voicethread in your Day 4 wiki page under the Activator
4. Revisit your Activator Response
In red revisit and revise your Task One Activator.
Task: Now that you know more about Nativism against the Irish in the 1800's, do you believe that the term Paddy Wagon used today is a racist slur? Why/Why Not?
Conclusion:
You have analyzed 2 primary sources to analyze Nativism against the Irish in the late 1800's. As you know, Nativism takes many overt (obvious) forms including job discrimination and religious intolerance, but Nativism is also more insidious in American culture and includes racist and sexist ideology. The term “Paddy Wagon” to describe the police truck used to arrest the disorderly is a remnant of this Nativism against the Irish that still used today in the 21st Century.
Analyze the change in Rural and Urban Populations using a graph. Infer the causes, the positive and negative effects of increased Urbanization and how reformers will attempt to fix the social problems accompanied with increased Urbanization.:
